Full-Size Templates Fit the Hull

I templated the full-height plywood piece and was pleasantly shocked by how closely the plans matched the real hull. After some nerve-wracking cutting, the doors matched perfectly and the piece was ready for epoxy.

Full-Size Templates Fit the Hull

Well, couple of days without updates, because I was really busy and wanted to finish that job before Shabbat. I was templating first as I knew there are small (5 mm range generally) discrepancies between plans and the real hull. Ok, I was actually sure that these differences are much larger- and I had extremely nice surprise. Even though I’m working on it so long it is still a huge shock to me when everything fits. I would say it is even larger shock at this stage than before!
Anyway, full-size templates (it is handy when your plywood comes covered in sheets of cardboard, you can actually make templates of full sheet’s size!) proved that I can actually progress to the plywood as differences are so small that it will be easier to work them out on stiff sheet than on a flimsy cardboard. They had to be corrected as this piece consists of two full-height pieces between which there are doors. And doors come from the same cutout- and to make things “easier” they are not placed symmetrically. That’s why I had to match two pieces when they still were overlapping - and that’s why the first cut looks like I wanted to make a joint between the two :)
Later only a bit of nerve-wracking cutting (If I messed up on that I would be furious with myself!) but the door match each other perfectly. So the piece is ready, I’ll probably still epoxy it today and call it a week. And beginning of the next week, on Sunday, I’ll be fitting partitions and shelves/seats in the starboard hull :)
