Making Tools for Smooth Epoxy Fillets
I’m finally making the filleting tools I should have made months ago, using old plastic buckets, scrap plywood and a saved paintbrush handle. We’ll see whether they produce the smooth, elegant fillets promised by Gougeon’s book.
So, how is your start of the week?
Mine is very simple - FINALLY making a couple of tools I should make months ago :)
I still have some fillets to do in lower hull, wanted to wait till I have all shelf supports in place - never mention the whole upper hull after I put the hull sides on.
I meant to do it long time ago but somehow never got around to do it, mainly because I had this little plywood spatula in right size (not an accident!) - but I decided to give it a try. Gougeon’s book praises it a lot so why not? I had some old, stiff plastic mixing buckets laying around and my hole saws happened to be just a correct size for the project, so I saved last used paint brush (after couple of uses with epoxy they end up in rubbish however hard I try to clean them) with wooden handle and used a scrap of 12mm plywood to make handles and here we are - apparently perfect tool for smooth and elegant fillets. We will see later today!
