Sanding Both Hulls, One Square Inch at a Time

I spent the day sanding both hulls, vacuuming every square inch and filling the scratches, uneven fillets and stubborn screw holes. Now I’m trying to keep the tent warm enough to sand everything again and wash the hulls by evening.

Sanding Both Hulls, One Square Inch at a Time

Entire day spent on SANDING. Well, nothing new 😂 But new was a scope of it - the whole surface of both hulls sanded, checked and rechecked. And after that, as a respite for my hands (try holding an orbital sander for hours in your hands and tell me how it feels ;) ) and also necessary step - vacuuming every single square inch of the hulls. You can see the difference between before and after vacuuming on the photos. And today, early, quick walk (well, over an hour!) with a little bit of runny filler to fill all even the smallest scratches on the plywood, uneven bits of fillets and even four small screw holes which managed to stay hidden and untouched by any epoxy filling till now. Very slow walk around the hulls, again checking three times everything and running fingers (in a nitrile glove) over the surface to make sure I can spot any bumps, scratches, maybe holes… now the tent has air con running at 28 degrees Celsius and heater helping to make it nice and hot there (well, the weather is not cooperating and instead of nice, sunny day which makes the tent going into 30s - it is dull and cloudy and without help the tent stays below 20… and I would like to sand all these little bits today so I can wash the hull by the evening and leave it to dry properly… #tiki38 #buildingwharram #allelectricboat #theseanation #ikaroa
