Sanding Bearers After Epoxying Them In
I’m sanding beam-through bearers by hand because I forgot to roughen them before epoxying them into narrow, inaccessible spaces. I’m also fitting bearers to the mast knees and partitions, readying everything for the hull sides.
Reminder to self (self, listen for once!): sand epoxy covered pieces BEFORE installing them into narrow and inaccessible spaces, if you want to glue something to them next day!!!
Yeah, I’m sanding beam through bearers on their top surfaces. Something I need to do before glueing beam through floors to them with any hope of proper adherence! And that’s something which would take probably 10 minutes on ALL OF THEM yesterday before I epoxied them in (maybe even 5 minutes, they just need a good scratch and with sander it doesn’t take that long!).
But I have epoxied them in. Which means it takes 10 minutes for a half of one beam through to be done- because I’m doing it by hand, can reach only half the length (width now) and have to move my steps or platform between each of them. Easy calculation shows I’ll be doing this for 2 hours :) (instead of 5 minutes - 24 times longer - and one wonders why it takes so long 😂).
I’m also fitting bearers to mast knees and partitions today, so I can install them by Sunday the latest. That way I’m all set for hull sides from Monday!
