Mast Beam Knees, One Piece at a Time
I’ve laminated the mast beam knees into the hulls and assembled four of the six beam-throughs. Once the remaining preparation is done, the hull sides can finally go on—which counts as HUGE CHANGES.
It seems fiddling with mast beam knees takes a bit of time - they have to be fitted practically as one piece and making it so is in 3 dimensional space influenced by stringers and with multiple pieces being laminated together (two knees, beam through floor, beam through wall, shelf, brace) you actually need to think about the correct way and order of operations.
But they are already laminated into the hulls, still need some elements fitted but it is much easier when the whole assembly doesn’t move! Also 4 out of 6 beam throughs are already fully assembled and epoxied, other two will take another couple of hours after lunch. I’m struggling to see anything else I should do before fitting the hull sides - of course except some preparatory work like removing all copper wires from stringers and sanding outer lower hull stringer to make the hull sides get better alignment.
In short we are going for HUGE CHANGES 😍
I hope you enjoyed a weekend at Devoran, despite really planning to go for Hui we had to stay working on IKAROA to make sure she will get out of the workshop this year!
