My Least Favourite Epoxy Preparation Job
I’m washing and sanding the hull and sheer stringers to remove amine blush before epoxying them. It is slow, sticky work, but I know from experience that skipping it would be a mistake.
Wonder how is that epoxying just a few things to the hull takes so damn long?
Well, meet my punishment for slacking. Yes, IKAROA is quite cruel when I even slightly slow down with the work and she finds new ways to make me pay for that.
She used to kick me when she still had some hard to spot corners - I’m still bruised all over! - but now, when her hull is well rounded she still has ways to make sure that I’m not getting lazy.
Today’s punishment is especially cruel as that is probably the MOST HATED chore in the workshop- at least for me! Because I didn’t finish - well, far from it! - fitting the sheer stringers on her (not for lack of hard work yesterday!) I have to wash diligently every single square inch of the surface on the top of the hull and all sheer stringers and then sand them to make sure they will allow epoxy mix to adhere in a correct way. And at this time of the year with levels of humidity and low temperatures throughout the night the amine blush is practically guaranteed - actually all the surfaces are like sticky wax.
I hate that because it takes ages to prepare but I do that anyway (no skipping here!) as I know from experience how much of the difference it makes.
I thought you may want to get a sneak peek at my less glamorous work (ok, it is mostly not glamorous at all!).
A little “behind the scenes video will be soon on our coffee page!
Yes, it is definitely an abusive relationship we both have 😂
