A Bike Fall Interrupts Boatbuilding

I was meant to be re-rigging a Colin Archer near the Arctic Circle, but a slow bike fall left me with injuries to both hands and my knee. Boatbuilding commentary will resume when at least one hand works again.

A Bike Fall Interrupts Boatbuilding

Ok, guys
I was going to put here an enthusiastic post about how we are taking break from boatbuilding and instead go almost into the Arctic Circle to re-rig a Colin Archer which we then are going to sail all the way to Canaries.

I was going to, but I won’t.

Mainly, because this presumptuous ape is an overachiever so when she did something stupid- she did it in style.

Like damaging three out of four extremities with a simple fall from a bike.

No, I wasn’t riding this bike very fast. In fact, I was riding it very slow. But centripetal force is not your friend when a bike on which you’re doing a 90 degree turn suddenly slides away from under your body. Launching you with your face flat onto the tarmac.

There is a classic mechanism of breaking your wrist - when you put it in front of you to break the fall.
Having some time spent in medical school and in hospitals during my training I knew that perfectly well. Unfortunately I was also perfectly aware that if I won’t break the fall, I’ll land face first and I’m going to hospital with blue lights, because this idiot didn’t put a helmet on.

So I landed on my both hands. My knee decided it won’t be outdone by some hands and joined the effort hitting the surface equally hard.

What you see, it is a result: hairline fracture to the bone in my left forearm, suspected fracture to the bone in my right wrist and a very painful and swollen but otherwise undamaged right knee.

So normal service with boatbuilding commentary will resume when at least one of my hands works again 😜
