The Value of Being Scared

I’ve been scared of this project from the beginning, not just now. Big dreams usually require doing frightening things repeatedly—and waiting longer than a month to see the results.

The Value of Being Scared

Value of being scared - or explanation HOW we do what we do.

Many times people are envious of our lifestyle. 'I envy you that can afford to build your own boat', 'I cannot just drop everything and sail', etc. etc.

I have realised, listening to my favourtie podcast* on my way to the shop, that the fact I'm s*!t scared that everything will collapse is not a feeling which showed yesterday.

No, we just reached new levels of being scared. But to be truthful we are s*!t scared since we started our project over 2 years ago. I started by giving up the stable and well-paying contract which for most of the time paid me my full pay for not-working (well, pandemic was useful for something!) and moving from the rented, quite comfy place to an empty workshop which, thanks to the same pandemic's lockdown, has became our home for long winter months.

I have been terrified of starting a new project after a failure of my previous one, which financially still affects me. But to achieve anything big you have to do truthfully scary things. And not once - many times. If you expect results to appear next day - you are an idiot. If you expect results to be visible in a month - you are a bit optimistic. But they eventually appear. And then other people think it just happened overnight...
(thank you, Adam - without you I would never decide to go on this rollercoaster once again!)

We planned this winter to be about our company (Marysia.App) and doing some scary things there and we are on a good way - we are more scared by the day by the cutting-edge things we are doing (and we are talking a completely new technology here!). So don't worry, we are going to be back with normal commentary as soon as it gets a bit warmer!

So remember - whatever you dream of, if these dreams are not scary to you, you are not dreaming BIG ENOUGH!

*I listen a lot to Amy Porterfield and her podcast - and recently, her book 'Two weeks notice'. It seems I'm a bit more radical in my approach than her :)
