Starting the Beams, Marking the Firebox

I started cutting the beams through the hull sides, with the port pieces next and the first coat of epoxy planned before the heat arrives. I also marked plywood for the boat’s eventual firebox—yes, Ikaroa will have a bonfire on deck.

Starting the Beams, Marking the Firebox

It is really good working in a nice weather in here at the very start of the week - Sundays are so peaceful and quiet in this place!
Good time to start something new - like our beam through sides. All for starboard hull are already cut, port hull drawn and to be cut first thing tomorrow so I can put first coat of epoxy on them before it starts being REALLY hot (and forecast is mentioning something about 27 Celsius which inside the workshop ends up being around 35).
Really happy how they turned out- millimetres of difference between both hulls and between plans and reality so it seems that I did pretty good job so far 😜

And added pleasure - could mark a piece of plywood as destined for the VERY LAST piece of this boat - a firebox! Yes, there is still a lot of time till I’ll be able to install this one- but the very act of actually working on a piece of plywood from which the last bit of the boat will be made is nice…
And in case you were wondering- yes, we will have a firebox on the deck. Hell, the very existence of this item on the drawings made us choose the boat (and I’m only half joking here!). After all, how many boats do you know on which you can safely lit a bonfire- and on which this ability was designed from the very start? It is actually very unique- even between Wharrams!
