Slow Hardener Saves My Heatwave Workflow
The heatwave had made fast epoxy nearly unworkable, so I switched to slow hardener and got back to fitting the bearers to my beam-through sides. I also recorded the useful temperature and working-time margins for larger microfibre mixes.
Heatwave continues and today already at 1pm the temperature has reached almost 32 degrees Celsius (for our followers from across the pond- 90 degrees).
But I have regained my superpowers and I can still work with my epoxy, finishing fitting the bearers to my beam through sides.
All because I finally switched to slow hardener and that gives me this necessary extra margin needed to work in this weather.
Realistic top of the temperature for working with fast one is 32C(90f) - and that is minutes of working time and forget about larger volumes! - while slow one extends it to almost 38 degrees Celsius (100F) so at 32 degrees Celsius it has still several minutes of working time with normal amounts.
I expected to be forced to make the switch when I get to hull sides as they require quite large amounts of microfibre mix so if weather forecasts will be confirmed (it should be cooler soon, technically down to 22C - 72F) - in the workshop won’t be too hot and slow hardener will give mi quite long time to work with it.
