Iroko Shoes on the Keel
I shaped iroko battens for the keel and skeg, glued them in place, and then spent the day sanding until my arms vibrated. The hulls are looking wonderfully golden, and I’m still on track to turn them next week.
Iroko “shoes” are on. And they look great!
Yesterday went on shaping iroko battens with electric plane to a rough size and shape of the keel bottom and ended with glueing all pieces onto the keel/skeg.
So of course today is on and off because one can hold this vibrating menace called orbital sander only so long! In my case it is between 1 and 1.5 hours before I need to sit down with my arms loose till every single cell in them stopped vibrating!
But as I mentioned before my attitude to sanding has changed and I love it (and I’ll tell that myself for as long as it takes to become truth!) so it is nice job. Of course colours of the hulls have changed and now they are lovely golden colour as the dust from iroko gets everywhere (and I have turned quite a lot of it into wood dust!).
We are well on track and it seems we are going to turn these hulls on Tuesday as planned - provided Aquafax won’t disappoint and delivers epoxy primer on time!
Still some small bits to finish but not a lot.
Happy, happy, happy! I’m finally going to do EVERYTHING I planned for the week 🥰🥰
Shabbat shalom everyone!
