Glassing the Bulkheads Before Fitting Them
I kept postponing fitting the bulkheads so I could glass their tops and beam-through parts while everything was still horizontal. I’ve also discovered that little kevlar scissors make clean, precise cuts through glass without pulling the strands.
I know, I’m saying that I’ll be fitting these bulkheads into the hulls for two days now, but I’m just finding new things which will be much easier and better to do BEFORE these are vertical and immovable!
Yesterday I have prepared all bulkheads and beam through bearers but left fitting them for the morning. And in the morning I’ve realised that actually, while I’m fitting these bearers I should as well glass the top of the bulkheads. The thing is, all parts of the beam throughs are to be glassed BEFORE assembly. Beam through is essentially made out of three parts - main bulkhead, beam through floor supported by these solid beam through bearers, pair of them, and separate from the bulkhead, parallel beam through wall which I’ll be installing soon. All these parts - top of the bulkhead, parallel wall and floor are to be glassed before assembling the whole beam through. That’s additional layer of glass as all beam throughs are later glassed together with the rest of upper hulls
Glassing this stuff is definitely much easier to do when they are horizontal and with good access. So instead of fitting them to the hulls, I have been cutting glass and glassing them (another few left to do). They look really good!
Btw, a propos cutting glass. Ever since I bought them for cutting kevlar tape, I’ve been using these little scissors for normal glass as well. With them you can actually CUT the thing instead of shearing it. Precise, clean cuts with no pulling strands - that’s completely different experience than using any standard scissors.
Ok, now little break and then glassing the rest of bulkheads :) and if I won’t find anything else which I can do with them, I may actually start fitting them 😜
