- Description: I reached for the 30-metre tape to measure the long stringers, then discovered the week’s carefully arranged plan needed turning upside down. The lower stringer has to go in before I can cut the beam-through bearers, so that is now the job.

Well, you know I’m graduating to a seriously big stuff if this blue tape measure is in play!
This is the only one which can measure the whole length of the boat - and elements which are full length of the boat (or just shy of that!). And one of these elements is a stringer - the top one measures 11.6m and the bottom one just around 11, so all well above the limits of my 8 m long metal tape - hence 30m long fibreglass one.
And I had a beautiful plan of works for this week. Well, as every single plan in a history of planning it didn’t survive long in contact with reality and was used only to humour G-d, but he is not the one with last laugh.
I discovered that I need actually the lower stringer in place for cutting the beam through sides. They rest on the lower stringer so they better reach it - fortunately a little note from Hanneke on the plans reminds about need to re-check this dimension in real hull. But to re-check it I need to first put these stringers in, so I guess my game plan for the week (which included lower stringers) needs to be put upside down!
And that’s why I put back the last two sheets of 12mm ply (yes, these are last bits in the hulls to be cut from it - rest is already awaiting fitting!) and reached to my wood stores (as you can see I tried to do the checks with a piece of 45x19 stock but I may as well get real thing in - it was on the list for tomorrow!) All 45x19 stock is going for stringers, there might be a little bit left - but at the same time I have re-checked 70x19 as I was pretty sure I’m slightly short on that one. And indeed - I need to get few more meters quickly so I can make all deck bearers.
So, stringers now and later in the week - beam through bearers and fitting a lot of stuff!
