- Description: I’m testing the cured Interprotect coating from a mixing bucket and finding that even 0.05 mm makes a remarkably tough continuous film. With Coppercoat and polyurethane still to come, I’m starting to believe the hull will be nicely protected.

Ok, fun fact: Interprotect in a loose layer of 0.05mm - or 50 micrometers.

Even in such a thin layer (cured on the inside of a mixing bucket) it creates a quite tough, continuous film.

For comparison, International says that a total Interprotect thickness on a new hull should be 0.01inch - which is 0.254mm, 5 times more than I’m holding in my hand. There is one bit (which was in the corner of the bucket) which is of this thickness. That’s pretty tough thing.

And over that there will be 4 layers of epoxy mixed with liberal doses of metallic copper - Coppercoat; or on the parts above water a couple of layers of hard 2 part polyurethane on a layer of undercoat.

I’m starting to believe that the hull will be nicely protected 😂
